Working at UvA Economics and Business

Every faculty of UvA has its own diversity officer. The faculty diversity officer role at UvA Economics and Business is a part time appointment focused on coordinating, encouraging, and facilitating

diversity policy
. This is done through dialogue with various individuals and groups (e.g. lecturers, educational program managers, student services, study advisors, study associations, the faculty board), organization of and participation in selected meetings and events, and provision of solicited as well as unsolicited advice and recommendations. The student assistant will report to the faculty diversity officer and support this kind of work, with particular attention to student contact, student related issues, and voicing the student perspective. Much of the work can be carried out with flexibility, making this an ideal job to combine with studying. 

What will you be doing as a Student-Assistant?

As the student assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting these efforts. Reporting directly to the diversity officer, you’ll focus on amplifying student voices and addressing issues that matter most to your peers. Whether it’s organizing impactful events or sharing insights to improve student experiences, your contribution will directly shape the inclusive culture UvA strives for.

The highlights of the job description are:

• Stimulate dialogue with students, and with study associations and the student council in particular; this work might include organization of one or more meetings and workshops;
• Support the scheduling and conduction of diversity sounding board sessions and give input to (student-related) discussion topics;
• Gather relevant input and draft (internal) memos and/or guides on diversity related issues (e.g. a checklist for organizing inclusive events, an initial primer on ‘the hidden curriculum’);
• Based on own ideas and contact with other students, suggest issues that require attention and – upon agreement with the diversity officer – take steps to start addressing them.

What you bring to the table

You’re a proactive, motivated student who’s ready to contribute to meaningful change. You respect agreements and deadlines and are not scared to proactively ask for feedback and guidance when necessary.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

• You’re currently enrolled as a student at UvA EB.
• You're comfortable with working in English, both written and spoken language;
• You have good organizational skills and communicate effectively.
• You are highly motivated to learn and to try to contribute with your own view and ideas;
• You’re genuinely passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion.

If you are an international student, you might need a work permit. If your application results in an offer contingent on a working permit, you will receive support necessary to request one.

The University of Amsterdam offers

You are available to support the UvA EB immediately, for a total of up to 150 hours till the end of July. Your salary will be based on the cao Nederlandse Universiteiten student-assistant scale. Depending on the number of ECTS you have completed, your hourly wage will range between €19.24 and €19.61, which includes an 8.3% year-end bonus.
