Senior Linux System Engineer Job Description

Introduction

Do you like to customize and configure a Red Hat Linux distribution and bring our application to maximum performance? Are you passionate about operating systems and willing to bring our Linux operating system to a higher quality level? Then is the job for you.

Job Mission

To create and improve the Linux operating system and controlling the scanner control host PC, including: tools, Python scripts and Ansible for software installation, software upgrades, backup and restore and performance measures.

Job Description

The Senior Linux System Engineer participates in a scrum team that takes care of the Linux operating system.The day to day activities include:

creating, customizing, configuring and testing Linux Red Hat and WindRiver distributions;
creating, improving and testing upgrade and installation scripts;
RedHat Virtualization, ansible and kickstart, spec files, makefiles, bitbake files;
creating custom RPM packages for automatic installations on our TWINSCAN systems;
help creating high level work packages including estimates;
analyzing and solving defects;
thinking with MVP mindset;
testing the automatic test scripts on target hardware, representing parts of our product;
participating in root cause analyses of issues found in the field or at integration test systems;
working in an scrum team as part of an Agile environment.

Education

You have finished at least a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Electronics or other related fields. Experience- extensive knowledge of Linux operating systems in a high-tech, enterprise environment;

Redhat certification is a plus;
WindRiver Linux experience;
experience in creating high level designs and writing documentation;
experience in configuring, using and debugging network technologies such as DNS;
DHCP, HTTP, Routing, VPN, NTP and NFS;
experience in working with configuration management systems (e.g. GIT, artifactory);
7+ years software development experience;
2+ years Computer Systems Architecture or similar experience.Personal skillsWe are looking for pragmatic, enthusiastic and ambitious Linux professionals with good communication skills and willing to take a lead on technical decision. You have a high standard with regards to delivering quality solutions. You are a true self-starter, take initiative, self-learning and you enjoy achieving results.Within the computer systems platform we have a test and integration team that integrates the work of all developers into a Linux distribution. This distribution is qualified and delivered to the software release. To do this the team works with GIT and the ASML software version control system. An automated Jenkins test server automatically executes all repetitive tasks in the integration and test sequence. Since ASML has a diverse and international population, the English language is used in all formal documentation and communications.

Context of the position

We configure and integrate Linux on servers in the ASML machines. This includes tools for installing and configuring Linux, time synchronization, hard disk storage, backup, restore and cloning of disks.

Main languages used are Ansible, Python and Linux shell scripts.
