Are you a forward-thinking experimental researcher passionate about regenerative design and ecological futures? Join the Regenerative Art & Design (RAD) research group and shape transformative art and design practices.

Great job

As a researcher in the Regenerative Art and Design (RAD) Research Group at CARADT, you will play a key role in shaping and executing research projects that explore the transformative potential of art and design in fostering regenerative futures. Your work will contribute to systemic design, and regenerative practices, bridging artistic inquiry with real-world challenges.

You will define and initiate research projects by identifying and analyzing societal and ecological challenges, actively engaging with local communities and key stakeholders. Through collaboration with artists, designers, scientists, educators, and external partners, you will co-develop practice-based research inquiries that integrate regenerative principles into materiality, systems, pedagogies and experimental methodologies.

Your responsibilities include designing research methodologies tailored to specific socio-ecological contexts, formulating research questions and structuring projects in a way that ensures effective knowledge creation, application and impact. You will coordinate the execution of research projects, fostering collaboration across disciplines, guiding students and project members, and ensuring that findings translate into relevant (scientific and educational) outcomes.

In the later phases of projects, you will synthesize research insights into impactful outputs, articulate responses to research questions, and validate findings. Your work will contribute to critical discourse by making knowledge accessible through publications, exhibitions, workshops, and transdisciplinary exchanges with education and other research groups. Additionally, you will support the integration of research outcomes into educational approaches, engaging students in transformative regenerative learning processes.

By actively engaging in knowledge dissemination and fostering connections between art, design, and ecology, you will contribute to a growing body of regenerative practices. Your role will help shape new design paradigms, challenge extractive models, and promote caring systemic approaches to creative practices and material engagement.

As a researcher, you will have full access to the Material Incubator, an advanced wet lab at St. Joost School of Art & Design in Den Bosch. This unique space, consisting of the Mycelium Lab and the Biobased Lab, provides an open and collaborative environment where you can experiment, develop bio-based materials, and explore regenerative strategies.

Your position as a researcher in the regenerative art and design within Avans

Art and design play a significant role in the development of society. The Centre of Applied Research for Art, Design, and Technology empowers artists and designers to fulfill this role. CARADT conducts practice-oriented research and integrates science, politics, and technology into the fields of art and design. The complexity of contemporary society calls for an approach that combines insights from various research fields. We develop our research program in close collaboration with the different programs within Avans University of Applied Sciences and external partners. Currently, CARADT hosts three professorships: Cultural and Creative Industry, Regenerative Art and Design and Situated Art and Design.

At CARADT, we are a close-knit team with a broad breadth of disciplinary backgrounds and a shared passion for art and design. We develop experimental propositions through creativity & critical imagination. Additionally, we are highly flexible regarding location and working hours, with a portion of the team frequently working from home or remotely.
