Position Purpose & Summary

The Sas van Gent location is a large complex processing wheat and corn to various finished products. There are large quantities of hazardous chemicals on site, PO, ethanol and others. As the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager you are part of the core management team of the Sas van Gent plant. You have the belief that aggressive goals can be achieved, identify what "needs to be done", assess the degree of urgency, execute a plan of action and lead the site emergency response team and processes. You motivate, inspire and engage others to execute and work towards a common goal. You create new avenues of opportunity and are willing to "dig" into details during challenging situations. You are able to think outside your immediate area of responsibility, see the big picture and support the overall business strategy. You oversee the location EHS team with 5 direct reports and strong connections towards project engineering and technology for process safety and incident investigation purposes. You report to the Sas van Gent site manager and have functional reporting line to the regional EHS lead.

Principal Accountabilities

• You lead efforts at the plant to ensure that the EHS talent is in place to address immediate and medium-term needs of the plant;
• You develop a plan to address gaps in EHS talent and knowledge needs and prepare the plant for the future
• You identify development opportunities for current employees to strengthen EHS expertise that match the medium-term needs of the organization;
• You approach the hiring/promotion process with a medium-range view, considering current and future needs of the business;
• You prepare the EHS budget and proposes to plant leadership for approval and manage the EHS budget for the plant;
• You lead engagement on EHS topics with external stakeholders in relevant industries and guide business leaders on specific customer and community concerns related to EHS topics across the region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline or EHS
• Minimum 16 years of experience in EHS or industrial setting with demonstrated participation in operation processes
• Experience in managing EHS at complex industrial plants
• Experience working with data, database applications and reporting (Enablon, Access, etc.)
• Experience in program development and implementation of new or changing systems
• Experience with standard operating procedure (SOP) development and delivering training
• Experience with process implementation of EHS Policies and Systems;
• Ability to anticipate, identify and plan for obstacles or barriers to data or system solutions;
• Ability to set goals, measure progress, make necessary adjustments and meet deadlines
• Fluent in Dutch and English, both spoken and written
