In the Netherlands and around the world, our 130 passionate professionals improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people.

 
Rutgers combines work on the ground with research, advocacy and promoting public support. Our focus is on sexuality education and information, access to contraception and safe abortion and the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence.


 

 

The International department is recruiting a: 
 
Senior Advocacy Officer
 
(24 hours per week, vacancy number
2023-37)

 
In this role you will work on our 
Generation Gender 
(GenG or Generation G) programme. Generation G’s overall strategic objective is for societies to become gender just and violence free, with and for young people in their full diversity. This is done mainly through campaigning, advocacy and strengthening civil society in seven countries (Indonesia, Lebanon, Jordan, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa and Morocco) with four coalition partners including Rutgers, Equimundo, Sonke Gender Justice and ABAAD. In each of the 7 countries there is a coalition of 3 to 4 partner organizations and in total the whole GenG team is over 100 colleagues spread across the world.

 
 
What you will be doing
 
You will act as a resource person on advocacy.

This includes the following:
 
You closely collaborate with partner organizations and stakeholders in the seven countries on coordinated advocacy efforts and communication campaigns.

 
You h
eavily contribute to the global Gen G communication and advocacy working group
V.
 
 
You support in the development and/or implementation of national and global advocacy and public support strategies and interventions
, in relation to sexual gender based violence and access to SRHR information and education;

 
You support partner organisations in global advocacy processes and in particular with the submission of reports to the United Nations’ Universal Periodic Review, Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women and the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

 
You follow and contribute to the outcomes of United Nations negotiations on gender-related resolutions in New York at the Commission on the Status of Women and in Geneva for the Human Rights Council. 

 
You follow multilateral processes and national developments on sexual and gender-based violence and translate technical political processes into digestible content for colleagues and peers.

 
You develop tools and write statements, blogs, policy briefings, key messages, speeches and other materials, for advocacy, public support, technical advice and communication purposes.

 
What we are looking for

You are a team player and networker, respectful to (cultural) differences and can navigate different values, backgrounds, genders and religions.
 

You have an interest and passion in the field of Gender Based Violence and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights, and meet the following criteria:
 
You have a degree in Social Sciences, communications or similar, or professional experience relevant for the position that proves you are at a similar level; 

 
You have at least five years relevant experience in an international setting, preferably in countries in Africa, the Middle East or Asia, and preferably working on GBV and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

 
You have experience in working in diplomatic spaces, preferably at the United Nations level. 
 
You remain calm in hectic moments and switch tasks quickly.
 
You have proven to be successful in developing advocacy strategies, interventions and
planning or contributing to communication campaigns.
 
You have experience in facilitating mutual learning and capacity strengthening activities, such as workshops or coaching (online, face-to-face and hybrid); 


 
You have an interest in external communication;
 
You have professional working proficiency in English; good command of French is highly preferred. 
 
You are willing and able to travel abroad for work a couple times per year.

 

 
What we offer

 
You will work in an exciting and challenging international environment, with highly motivated and passionate colleagues. Depending on knowledge and experience, the maximum salary for a 36-hour working week for this position is minimum €4.108 and maximum € 5.335 gross per month (FWG scale 60; salaries per 1 January 2024).

In addition to the primary employment conditions, Rutgers also offers a competitive package of secondary employment conditions, including an 8,33% end-of-year allowance. The collective labor agreement

Our office is located in Utrecht, the Netherlands,
but you will be working with colleagues all over the world. Most colleagues work from home for a part of the week.
We prefer a candidate based in The Netherlands, but remote working from a GenG country or a country close to The Netherlands could be an option.
