Job description
The Erasmus Behavioural Lab at the Erasmus University Rotterdam is recruiting a laboratory research assistant to begin as soon as possible. The research assistant will join the interdisciplinary support team in charge of overseeing daily lab activities and is involved in all aspects of assisting in behavioral and psychophysiological research. You will be working in a laboratory environment where lab research takes place using high tech sensors acquiring a wide variety of physiological signals. You will be responsible for helping (senior) researchers and students in their activities and experiments and for the organization and coordination of laboratory operations.

Essential duties:
  • Setting-up and maintaining laboratory equipment and functionalities.
  • Helping researchers in programming and preparing experiments, build test-ups, programming, data analysis, etc.
  • Develop training manuals and provide training for research assistants and students.
  • Write standard operation procedures and drive the implementation of process improvements and good practices.
Requirements
  • At least HBO bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, e.g. physics, electronics, informatica, experimental psychology, neuroscience, etc.
  • Affinity with behavioral and psychophysiological research methodologies in the field of psychology, child studies, cognitive neuroscience and/or neuroeconomics would be a plus.
  • Proficiency (or willingness to learn) in using laboratory research software, e.g. E-Prime, Presentation, Matlab, EEGLab, Qualtrics, Inquisit, Brainvision Analyser, Acknowledge, etc.
  • Computer programming or web/app development skills would be a plus, e.g. Python or VB.
  • Self-motivated to learn new skills and solve problems independently, attentive to detail, and comfortable juggling multiple tasks.
  • Hands-on attitude, which means taking initiatives, having a flexible approach, and solving problems on a daily base.
  • Good communication skills in English and Dutch are a must.
  • Highly motivated to work in a multicultural and dynamic environment.
Conditions of employment
An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The start date of this position is as soon as possible and you will be based at Erasmus Behavioural Lab in Rotterdam. The successful candidate will be offered a one year contract with Erasmus University Rotterdam. The contract can be extended in case of a positive assessment or turned into a fixed employment contract.

In accordance with the conditions applied at Erasmus University Rotterdam as indicated in the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO NU) of the Dutch universities, the salary is dependent on the candidate’s experience and is set at a maximum of CAO NU scale 9 with a minimum of € 2.920,- and a maximum of € 4.012,- gross per month, on a fulltime basis. In addition, EUR pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3% and offers excellent secondary benefits, and a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision and we offer partially paid parental leave, fully paid extended birth leave for partners, a personal education budget, work-life balance coaches and more. Employees can also use EUR facilities, such as the Erasmus sports center and the University library.

EBL is the joint research facility of the School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB) and the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM). EBL has at its disposal a wide range of high standard research facilities and specialist set-ups for behavioural research. Researchers can use the lab facilities and a range of resources to gather data in the best possible way. EBL technical support staff offer day-to-day lab support and work together with the researchers to craft suitable technical solutions for their experiments.
