Operations Manager Warehousing & Distribution
Our Nordic client is a successful company in the market of workwear and personal protective equipment (PPE). Provider of clothing to protect industrial workers in hazardous working environments. The company owns and manages globally a value stream from creative design to production and delivery services. Customers are serviced with a modern logistics network including web shop and smart e-solutions to improve efficiencies. Their European footprint will be extended in the Netherlands by starting up a Rotterdam-Rijnmond operation, that opens the position for a hands-on Operations Manager.
About the role
On the higher level your self-starting priority is to set up a warehouse and distribution center, arranging the basic lay out, utilities, racking and equipment needed. In the start-up period, you will enhance your warehouse and VAS production team by 3 co-workers.
However, you will be always more on the floor than behind a desk.
In this full-time role, you will be reporting to the COO.
In this role you will:
- implement and executing primary processes of the full logistics operation from receiving, to storing, picking & packing of orders, shipping in an international setting.
- arrange, price, and execute value add services (VAS), such as applying customer logos on garments by heat-seal, sewing and direct embroidery.
- ensure that the physical and administrative processes meet all requirements of bonded warehousing and shipping as stocks will be customs goods until dispatch.
- ensure that commercial and pricing activities are included relating to extra services for customers
- in cooperation with the HQ IT, you install and test the administrative ERP system, so all physical flows are adequately accounted for at any time in the system. Paper trails are managed properly.
r level your role will be operations and site manager to develop the site and make it volume ready.
Managing the site and team, improving processes, customer service activities are essential activities for you and your team. Some reporting tasks and KPI management are part of the job.
About you
- You are an operations or warehouse manager who likes to start and scale up a modern warehouse and distribution center.
- You do not hesitate to take other site management matters into your own hands.
- You have a non-nonsense, direct approach.
- You are familiar with bonded warehousing.
- You are an independent, self-starting entrepreneurial manager, with both a blue and white collar.
- Strong sense of taking responsibility, drive for organizing in structures before executing rigorously.
- Customer contact and service is natural to you, inclined to go the extra mile.
- When activity gets hectic or complex, you keep staying steady on your feet, maintain the overview and do what needs to be done.
- Your communication is adjusted to different stakeholders.
- You are a true team player, stand more together than above the team.
- In future your ambition is to grow a bigger site.
Furthermore, you:
- Are holding MBO+/HBO educational level.
- Have at least 10 years of experience in a working foreman or managerial role in logistics and operations, preferably with bonded warehousing and distribution.
- Are experienced in setting up warehousing and VAS capabilities.
- Have knowledge of transport and customs documentation for export and import.
- Have experience with ERP and WMS systems, Office software.
- Are fluent in Dutch and English.
- Have affinity with safety.
