Job description
The Erasmus University Rotterdam will start with a comprehensive Academic Outreach and Advancement project as one of the ways to implement our new strategy “The Erasmian Way, Creating Positive Societal Impact”.

The project exists of several lines of action. We aim to 1)
elaborate and strengthen our
connection
with the historically underrepresented primary and secondary school pupils and students in the greater Rotterdam area through several outreach activities, 2)

expand and improve student-centered support
in the pre-enrollment phase and at EUR for these groups and 3) build new blocks by enabling EUR scientist, teachers and students to develop, implement and research

equity-based opportunity programmes and activities.
This project will strengthen other relevant projects already at EUR such as adding more diversity and inclusion aspects in the curriculum, teachers’ professional development, and student activation on campus. These projects are all part of the central Diversity & Inclusion Office. The Academic Outreach and Advancement project is part of the

D&I Office
, in close cooperation with the Student Well-being programme, the
Erasmus Science Hub
that introduces school children to science and research, and the
Erasmus Ambassadors Office
.
Both the post doctoral researcher and the PhD student will work on the project, in which the post doctoral researcher will share some of the coordinating tasks (e.g., communication with collaborators, organization of meetings) and will share supervision over the PhD student with a promotor. Both will be required to:

• stay up to date with the relevant academic literature and relevant societal developments
• work on the study design, execution, and data analyses;
• publish papers in internationally renowned journals;
• communicate the findings to specific stakeholders and the general public;
• make recommendations regarding local (and national) policies;
• present findings at academic conferences;
• work on grant applications for future projects

Requirements

• Completed Masters degree in one of the behavioral sciences (e.g., psychology, anthropology, sociology, pedagogy)
• Basic knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods (conducting studies, analyzing data)
• Good knowledge of statistics
• Good academic writing and presentation skills
• Very good command of spoken and written English and Dutch (C1 level)
• Structured, independent and disciplined work style
• Works well in teams
• Excellent communication, social, and organisational skills
• Highly motivated, creative, and conscientious
• Analytical thinking and goal-oriented

Conditions of employment
Erasmus University Rotterdam offers attractive terms of employment, including a holiday allowance of 8%, a year-end payment of 8.3% and up to 41 annual vacation days in case of a full, 40-hour workweek.

In addition, EUR takes part in the ABP pension scheme, and we also offer partially paid parental leave. Moreover, EUR staff members are allowed to make use of the EUR facilities, including the Erasmus sports centre and the University Library.

We offer an appointment as a PhD student for a period of 1.5 year, which will be extended with a second term of 2.5 years if the performance evaluation is positive. Remuneration will be according to the PhD scales set by the Collective Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU), and will range from € 2.395,- per month in the first year to € 3.061,- per month in the fourth year (gross amounts, in case of fulltime employment).

Department

The General Management Directorate (ABD)

The General Management Directorate (Algemene Bestuursdienst, ABD) is the central staff organisation responsible for the organisation and support of EUR’s policy and administration at the institutional level. ABD supports the Executive Board in fulfilling its responsibilities with regard to the quality, accessibility and financing of EUR’s education and research programmes. ABD handles the joint design of integrated policy, ensures the timely submission of policy within decision-making procedures and the implementation of the adopted policy measures and constantly monitors and evaluates developments in the interest of further improvement. ABD comprises the departments of Academic Affairs (AZ), Corporate Planning & Control (CPC), Administrative Affairs (BZ), Legal Affairs (JZ), Strategy Office (SO) and the CIO- office. The independent university publication Erasmus Magazine also falls under ABD in organisational terms.

The management directorate is headed by the Director of the General Management Directorate, who also serves as Secretary of the Executive Board.
