Over the coming years, TPV aims to continue conducting internationally recognized research and high-quality teaching for both students and professionals. In order to do so effectively, TPV is looking to expand its academic staff with an Assistant Professor who focuses on the rule-of-law and human-rights related aspects of (counter)terrorism.Prospective candidates need to demonstrate a clear affinity with the rule-of-law and human-rights related components of security-related developments in (Western) societies. Examples include, but are not limited to, the potential unwanted side-effects of counter-terrorism policies, how expanded capabilities for intelligence and security services can impact citizens’ right to privacy and to what extent rule-of-law based approaches offer solutions for dealing with returning foreign fighters. Expertise specifically related to terrorism and political violence is required, although applicants need not be solely focused on these aspects of security studies.

- Engage in the public debate on security and the rule of law;
- Conduct thesis supervision;
- Tutor students by providing mentoring and advice;
- Continue to develop an (inter)national professional network that spans both academics and policymakers/practitioners;
- Actively participate in discussions at the institute and research group level on research and teaching innovation.

- Outstanding research qualities manifest in an established publication record;
