This position holds a twofold character, EHS Auditor and EHS Program Manager.For the EHS auditor part the position plans, leads and conducts EHS compliance and management systems audits primarily in EMEA but also globally on an as needed basis and is in on-going communications with management at all levels to report and follow-up on audit results.
For the EHS program manager part: The EMEA EHS department works closely with manufacturing and laboratory sites to provide support and determine issues/needs for compliance, training, continuously improving EHS performance and assisting sites in maintaining the requirements of the Responsible Care management system and our client's internal EHS standards. This position is responsible for providing EHS support to our client's EMEA locations and global on an as needed basis.
The position reports to the EHS Manager EMEA and has, especially for the audit part, close connections with EHS auditors in other regions and the Global Responsible Care Manager for program coordination and alignment.
The successful candidate should expect significant travel for both parts of the role.
Main activities:
- Proactively maintains a broad knowledge of current and emerging country and local EHS regulatory requirements affecting Company operations;
- Provides detailed regulatory interpretation of complex laws and regulations in a manner that delivers accurate and efficient feedback and guidance to management;
- Demonstrates a breadth and depth of understanding of multiple EHS subject areas;
- Applies subject matter expertise and excellent communication skills to independently and objectively help stakeholders identify and meet EHS compliance requirements;
- Assists in maintaining compliance audit protocols and effectively applying them during fieldwork;
- Plans and leads facility audits that include experienced subject matter experts from other parts of the organization and/or specialized consultants;
- Manages multiple complex audit projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensures that project deliverables meet evidence and quality standards with minimal oversight;
- Conducts meetings to advise management of the nature and status of issues identified during fieldwork;
- Collaborates with the other auditors and the Global Responsible Care manager to identify and implement processes and tools that enhance the quality and efficiency of EHS audit work.
- Participates in special EHS compliance and assessment projects that require an advanced degree of technical/audit knowledge and skills;
- Assist the other EMEA EHS program managers performing 3rd party supplier audits, Internal RC audits and gap assessments for other requirements;
- Support facilities in closing audit findings from formal EHS audits;
- Proactive monitoring of audit finding closure;
- Support sites implementing the company's internal EHS standards and close identified gaps;
- Be involved in or lead incident investigation;
- Participate in international cross functional teams as needed;
- Training and coaching;
- Continuously monitor program effectiveness.
Profile
Education/experienceBachelor's degree in engineering, environmental management, environmental science, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, safety or related major relevant advanced degree preferred;
Comprehensive professional experience in EHS disciplines in a chemical, pharmaceutical, refinery, or related setting with minimum of 6 - 8 years of experience in EHS program development and/or regulatory audits required. Experience in both site and corporate EHS job functions is preferred;
Prior regulatory compliance audit fieldwork experience preferred. International fieldwork experience preferred;
Extensive knowledge of chemical processes and equipment;
Extensive knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety laws and reporting requirements;
Knowledge in international Environmental, Health & Safety, and Responsible Care management systems;
Professional certification (e.g. CPEA, PE, REM, CHMM, CSP, CIH, or other equivalent certification) or ability to obtain within 12 months.
Familiarity with continuous improvement processes, tools, and techniques. Six Sigma or LEAN certification a plus.
