What are you going to do?

As a
Data Engineer
, you will play a key role in enhancing and expanding the core of our data platform. Your work will focus on building a future-proof solution with streamlined, efficient ETL processes. We value innovation and encourage you to stay ahead of technological advancements, integrating them into our daily operations to drive continuous improvement. Collaboration will be at the heart of your role, as you work closely with the IT Architect and Product Owner to make strategic decisions, with a strong emphasis on data quality and metadata management. Your contributions will enable high-quality information products that empower key domains such as Finance, Operations, Management, and HR.

At Nedap, we are developing a system to trace products from production to the end customer. This involves building a data pipeline that processes and stores both structured and unstructured data in Azure Data Lake. The system aims to enable production lines to track products at every stage, identify customer-reported issues, and analyze product lifecycles using advanced data analytics. 

As a Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing scalable pipelines, ensuring data quality, and recommending the best tools and architectures (e.g., Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, Databricks) to support this initiative. This project highlights the critical role you’ll play in transforming raw data into actionable insights that drive our business and enhance customer outcomes.

Your responsibilities

• Take the technical lead in the ongoing development of our data platform in collaboration with the Data & BI team;
• Provide proactive recommendations on new solutions and emerging technologies, including AI;
• Develop and maintain methodologies to ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency;
• Design and implement scalable data pipelines for processing structured and unstructured data;
• Optimize data pipelines for performance and scalability;
• Educate and inspire stakeholders on the potential of data and the capabilities of the data platform;
• Translate business needs into technological solutions and provide recommendations for solution directions. 

Your team

You will be part of the Data & BI team within Nedap's IT department. This team is responsible for unlocking data from source systems and transforming it into information products. The team consists of BI developers focussing on datasets and reports within Power BI, data engineers and a Product Owner.

The IT department also includes Office Automation & Business IT, with teams dedicated to infrastructure and service desk. Your team is located within the Business IT section of IT.

Required experience and skills

You are someone who takes the lead in addressing technical challenges and ensures that high-quality solutions are implemented. You involve stakeholders throughout the process, from planning to delivering the final result. With strong analytical skills, you translate complex issues into efficient solutions. You enjoy working in a collaborative team environment where decisions are made together and results are achieved as a team.

 

Besides that, you have:

• A university-level working and thinking ability, preferably in the field of Business & Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline;
• At least 5 years' experience as a Data Engineer within a dynamic environment;
• Experience with Cloud platforms (Azure) and you are familiar with data technologies (Microsoft Fabric) in a Cloud environment; 
• Knowledge of database systems and you are skilled in data modelling and schema design;
• Proficient in programming languages such as Python and/or Java and query languages such as SQL;
• Experience with Power BI (preferred).
