Job description

Project

Value Based Health Care (VBHC) initiatives aim to improve clinical outcomes, patient oriented outcomes and the patient-physician relationship in the consultation room. While the importance of the orientation towards patients is evident, less focus has so far been placed on the pivotal role that health care professionals play in providing care that is of high quality and value based. The aim of this PhD project is to develop an in-depth understanding of the influence of VBHC initiatives on health care professionals at the individual and team level. Important aspects include intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of professionals, their well-being and the relationship among health care professionals working in teams at different levels. After having conducted a systematic literature review on VBHC and motivation & well-being, you will collect both quantitative and qualitative data in several Dutch hospitals, including the Erasmus MC, for empirical analysis.

Background

To effectively address the pressing societal challenges regarding health and health care, broad interdisciplinary collaborations are needed. Intensifying collaborations between disciplines and institutions can help to bring the required innovative solutions to preserve and improve the health and wellbeing of current and future generations. This aim lies at the heart of the convergence between the Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Erasmus MC and the Delft University of Technology. As a leading, multi-disciplinary institute, aiming to have a positive impact on the future of health and healthcare, nationally and internationally, through research and education, the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) will fund 6 PhD positions in relation to this convergence. This vacancy concerns one of these 6 PhD positions.
